The 5.4-inch outer and 7.6-inch inner displays arrive with Touch ID, two cameras, and a redesigned iOS 27 dock on the side.
Apple announced the iPhone Duo, its first foldable phone, on Friday. The device pairs a 5.4-inch outer display with a 7.6-inch inner screen that carries a nano-texture finish and almost no visible crease. Apple swapped Face ID for Touch ID on the power button and fitted two rear cameras, a main lens and a wide-angle lens. The base 256GB model starts at $1,999.
Apple enters a foldable market that Samsung and Google already occupy, and the company framed the launch as a late but serious bet. Apple described preorder demand as extraordinary and said its teams are working to ship units as quickly as possible. The phone reaches stores on October 23rd after preorders opened at 8AM ET on Friday.
Teams that ship mobile apps should test layouts against a 7.6-inch inner screen and a 5.4-inch cover display, since Apple rebuilt iOS 27 controls and placed the dock on the side. Touch ID on the power button means biometric flows need a fallback path that does not assume Face ID. A $1,999 entry price narrows the early buyer base to high-spend users.
Apple opens iPhone Duo sales in stores on October 23rd, and delivery estimates for every configuration already sit in late January. Apple has not said whether stores will hold inventory for buyers who missed preorders. Watch whether those ship dates hold as the company scales production of its first foldable.
